Drypoint Printmaking

2 Drypoint bees

Explore the simple medium of drypoint intaglio printmaking, where lines are scratched into a plastic plate to create an image for printing.

You’ll create a small edition of prints from your own drawing, copyright-free internet image. or photograph.

Can’t draw?  No worries!  The drypoint plates are transparent so you can just trace your image onto your plate.

You’ll learn:

  • the fundamentals of intaglio printmaking including inking and wiping of plates
  • how to enhance your print using chine colle (collage of rice paper whilst printing) and hand-colouring with watercolours
  • how to create and print drypoint plates at home with kitchen equipment and recycled materials

No chemicals are used in this process – we use Akua Intaglio inks which are soy-based and water wash-up.  We’ll be printing with A6 size plates onto artist quality printmaking papers.

This workshop is suitable for all levels of art experience and is great place to start your printmaking journey.
