Our workshop program for Winter is out now, check out what's on in our website calendar!
Tutor: Alex Louisa
Come and learn one of my favourite mediums with me!
PanPastel is a soft pastel compressed in a pan, that you apply with a special sponge tool. It can be hard to wrap your head around how to use it at first, so we’re going to start with the basics and only use the black pan in this workshop. This is one of my favourite ways to work with this medium, and I’m sure you’ll love it.
After I’ve shared some of my past PanPastel works with you, we’ll start out with some exercises to familiarise ourselves with the mark-making capabilities of the sponge tool. We’ll also test out how to use different erasers to add extra marks or highlights through subtractive techniques.
I’ll then be guiding you through how to use these techniques on a large botanical artwork from start to finish. All materials are provided for use within the class and you’ll go home with your 18 x 24″ (45 x 61cm”) gorgeous botanical piece that you’ve created.
We’ll have a short break in the middle, so please bring something along for lunch (a fridge and microwave is available to use). Tea and coffee is provided.
